Trade Rules

ISF has issued rules and usages for the trade in seeds for sowing purposes, to clarify and standardize contractual relations between buyers and sellers at the international level. These rules are complemented by procedure rules for dispute settlement - through mediation, conciliation or arbitration - for the trade in seeds for sowing purposes and for management of intellectual property.

The trade rules were amended in May 2007 and came into force on July 1,2007. Only these rules are posted here. Those in force prior to this date are available on request from the ISF Secretariat.

NOTE: The ISF Rules and Usages for the Trade in Seeds for Sowing Purposes were modified on 3 Jan 2008 to reflect the fact that the ISTA Green International Seed Lot Certificate is no longer in use from 1 Jan 2008.
